Japanese Scripts
The Japanese language is written with a combination of three scripts, Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji. All three are based on the chinese character Kanji which was imported from China. Hiragana originated from the Chinese cursive script and Katakana was invented as a shorthand for the Chinese characters. What might be the fourth script is Romaji. Also known as Latin alphabet, this modern, most recently invented script is most often used as logos and typing. For numbers, Hindu-Arabic numerals are most commonly used, the the traditional Sino-Japanese numerals are used quite often as well. With this many combination of scripts for one language, not seen in most other languages, Japanese tuition is a must for foreigners coming to Japan and wanting to learn the language.
